The City of Florence is a surprisingly cosmopolitan city located in northeast South Carolina, just over an hour from Myrtle Beach.
It offers more than 5,000 quality hotel rooms and 350 fine restaurants and eateries. Conveniently located at the intersection of I-95 and I-20, the city still retains its southern charm and heritage reflected in interesting museums, antebellum mansions, lovely gardens and historic districts.
During the latter part of the 20th century and early 21st century, Florence's economy was transformed from based largely on rail and farming into a diversified economy as the major commerce, finance, rail and trucking services, health care, and industrial center of the Eastern Carolinas. The historic downtown district running from the central business district toward the McLeod Medical Center, features a number of historic buildings that have been rehabilitated.
